Hand Tools – no batteries required

Don’t underestimate the usefulness of a well rounded hand tool collection. In times of power outages or more extreme disasters, your collection of hand tools could mean the difference in your survival. Start putting together your hand tool collection now. There are a lot of great bargains for older carpentry tools. Many of these old tools were built so rugged that the surface rust that the seller thinks is the end of the tool, is just the thing that allows us to get a great deal.

When putting together your collection, think about the main tasks, drilling, cutting, planning, hammering. Then fill in with the other tools like screwdrivers, squares, chisels.

Update: Volunteer Tomato’s and Dollar Store Container Garden Trial

Here’s a quick update on the volunteer tomatoes post and the dollar store container testing lettuce and radish grown in shallow pans.

The planted volunteer tomatoes are thriving. In fact the compost that I dug in is now sprouting more volunteers. I recognize more tomato starts. And a few unique sprouts I’m not certain of.

Swiss Army Utensils – gimmick or utilitarian?

In an urban life, gifts come and go. I found this cool knife still in a box, for many years I presume. My recent fascination with carving spoons and utensils, I met some resistance from my prepper compadre in using wood utensils, so I thought I’d share this new found hardware. The Swiss army utensil knife? Not sure what I should call this, but once I opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised of its usefulness.
