Product Review: AR-7 Survival Rifle

Guest Post by Grey Viking.

Today we are reviewing one of the most unique rifles available, the Henry AR-7 Survival Rifle. Originally designed as a U.S. Air Force Pilot Survival Rifle, the compact AR-7 is a semi-automatic Rifle, chambered in .22 LR, fed from an eight round detachable magazine. What makes this rifle so unique is it’s ability to break down into three basic components with the receiver and barrel stored within the ABS plastic stock. Taking the stored components to a fully functional rifle is quick and easy:
-Remove stock butt pad
-Remove receiver and barrel
-Screw receiver into stock
-Screw barrel into receiver
The stock compartment also accepts two additional eight round magazines.

Had a quick range session with the AR-7. While made famous in a James Bond movie where it was called a “Sniper Rifle,” it is not. The peep sight is quick to acquire your target and it is accurate enough for it’s intended purpose. But, even better, it was totally reliable with no malfunctions after 50 rounds. Ammunition used was CCI/Blazer 40 grain solid point .22LR.

Overall Impressions: Honestly, I really like the AR-7. It is much more than a novelty and would be a welcome addition to your survival aresenal. It shines where space is a premium, whether that be in your vehicle, boat or backpack. It is so lightweight and handy. I enjoy shooting it and really appreciate the highly visible sights. While the AR-7 is not my primary .22LR platform, it fills the niche as an effective secondary rifle.
