Here’s a quick update on the volunteer tomatoes post and the dollar store container testing lettuce and radish grown in shallow pans.
The planted volunteer tomatoes are thriving. In fact the compost that I dug in is now sprouting more volunteers. I recognize more tomato starts. And a few unique sprouts I’m not certain of.
These are the three compost volunteers from a previous post. These are growing rapidly. I’ll be planting them in another week. This will provide an offset in production from the first four plants, increasing the yield over a longer period of time.
The lettuce from the dollar store container garden has popped up. The weather this past week has been cooler with scattered clouds, so the sun has been limited. It always encouraging to see the seeds come to life.
Radish never fail to impress. In just 6 days there are clearly strong sprouts. Most radish will be ready to harvest in 30 days making it a great candidate for young children. They can see the process from seed to table in 30 days.
I’ll follow up next week with another update and some tips on pruning to produce a better crop yield. God bless!
